Watched Nara-Hari, a Kannada play at Ravindra Kalakhetra.
Synopsis:-
'Nara-Hari', a first-of-its-kind play, is all about the ancient story of Narasimha, and a reflection of the present-day society and polity. It is also about the legend of Hiranyaksha (the demon with the golden eye) and his brother Hiranyakashipu, and about modern power-play where wealth, including gold, lords over all and induces many to possess it any cost and through any means, including theft.
In this vicious power-play, even education, morals, relationships and deaths are used as pawns or dices. Old concepts merge with new ideas. The play depicts how science, piety, and laws are misused for nefarious ends, how development of science and production of weapons for defence are misused for offence and ever-increasing desire to swindle others' wealth. It also highlights the clash of stubborn ideas and nature and ego.
The modern showcasing of ancient characters and qualities is being done by 'Spandana' team.

Review:-
Apart from 3 actors, all others performed on stage for the first time. It was very good performance, to be frank it was too good for first timers. It was like experienced team performing. The actors were very energetic and very talented. They improvised live, co-actors responded calmly to those improvisations. Script was very interesting with constant toggling between ancient time and modern time. The comedy elements were very fresh. The writer kept simple, making the play even more entertaining. The script writer turned into actor, when he donned the part of Narada. Acting was also top notch, special mentions are the actors who donned Narada, Kayadu, Hiranyakashyapu, Lord Vishnu, Prahlada, etc.Music was very sweet to ears. Direction was also top notch as it was directed by legendary theatre artist of India. People who have missed these have lost a true entertainer and also a true moral play.
